Does Kim Jong Un actually make any decisions in N.K or is he just an image?

I don’t get the impression that he does.

  • I imagine the little tubby boy makes no more important decisions than what he wants for lunch.

He’s quite clearly the tool of the military, which have a vested interest in keeping North Korea on a permanent war footing.

Propaganda film of him inspecting ‘his’ troops and weaponry as The Great Leader and some sort of Warrior Prince is all pantomime stuff, to keep the brain-washed population in line.

  • Interesting question. I agree that it does appear that he does not make a lot of decisions and that is probably true as there are so many of the old guard still in power in both the military and the party. I think once he removes many of the old guard and installs newer younger loyalists (loyal to him) he then will be able to make a lot more decisions and exercise more real control over the country’s policies. As another person mentioned the military makes a lot of the decisions and maintains the military first policy that has been in effect since the founding of the country. The military also controls foreign policy and trade deals. He will have to take time to change the upper echelons of the military and party.

  • Kim Jong ill spent his whole life being weaned into this position of power.

Of course he makes the decisions, but always taking into consideration the all powerful military, without who’s backing he would have no chance.

North Korea is totally controlled by a military dictatorship, with the “Kim” family at the helm, it is neither a communist nor socialist country.

  • Stephen Jones actually makes the decisions.
