Does restoring my computer to factory settings fix it?

My laptop according to the people at the store is one of the best ones they had. When I downloaded games that use a lot of cpu and need a very good graphics card and processor it was all fine. years later I noticed my laptop is way way slower then it used to be. Playing games I first played getting it now lags and comes with low fps. I wanna know if restoring it back to factory settings will bring it back to how it was or is it slowing down cause of the actual components inside the computer just getting old.

  • It may not be necessary to do a full restore. you simply need to clean out what is causing your machine to be slow. a good start is the use CCleaner..then defrag…also try a good anti virus and malwarebytes. You may have unwanted things running in the back ground…check your “start up” to see if there are things you don’t need to be running at start up. Clean out old unused programs and data. Often laptops come with “bundled” ( I call it “bungled” software) that has no value…its just a “selling point” eye candy for advertisement! If you simple “restore to factory” your basically formatting the drive…you will lose EVERYTHING in the computer…including factory drivers. Just do a through cleaning and you machine will be better

  • It is not common for “old components” in a computer to slow a computer down. When they get old they can cause problems like freezing, BSOD, crashes, etc but usually if they are working will run at the normal speed.

Things that slow down a computer are: almost full or failing hard drive, viruses, too many programs running in the background, adware that has hijacked your system. If you have checked those items and it still runs slow it would be worthwhile to do a factory reset. Be sure to backup any important files first.

  • it can be both hardware and software. Your computer updates all the time, and the files aren’t getting smaller. But you should see if “cleaning” your computer will do the trick, because files tend to get “messed up” after a while.

So, after a “factory restore” your computer may or still may not become faster. If nothing has changed, time to consider a replacement.

  • I dont think that will help at all….re-formatting the computer will help alot
