Does rosetta stone work?

I’m thinking about buying Rosetta stone so I can learn Spanish. I really want to learn Spanish and I am Spanish and know a lot about my culture but when it comes learning the language my mind can’t comprehend I’ve tried to take Spanish at school (I can’t focus in a class ) and my mom had tried to teach my brothers and I ( she stopped because my brothers wouldn’t bother paying attention ) but besides those failed attempts I would really like to learn Spanish so does it work or not

  • Please don’t waste your money on it. Rosetta Stone is not very good at all. It’s popular only because they have tons of money to spend on marketing and getting celebrities to endorse the thing. If you really want to learn a language, try Assimil and the Teach Yourself Series. These two courses are highly recommended by Hyperpolyglots and I can personally say they are the best thing I have used as well.

    If you are looking for some type of software though that is way more useful than Rosetta Stone, you should try out Rocket Spanish. I did a review of it at http://languageholic.com/rsr

  • I totally understand. I tried classes for years and couldn’t grasp it. I recently tried Rosetta stone and all I can say is I’m glad a friend let me try it out because it was the dullest way to learn. There is no English which can be good but it doesn’t explain anything either, it just shows photos, like a matching games that lasts FOREVER. It’s the same monotony as data entry, I almost fell sleep. The microphone is a good idea but even when you repeat the words correctly it doesn’t always let you continue to the next lesson. I tried pimsluer Spanish and that worked well but the thing that I wished I knew about was Michel Thomas. That audio caused me to start making up my own sentences from the first lesson. It has been AMAZING. The audio is 8 hrs long and i am able to understand the sentence structure too. The only down side is that the teacher in the tape has an accent that isnt Spanish but I watch novellas on tv and found I could grasp more of what they were saying Plus it costs hundreds of dollars less than Rosetta stone.

  • I have Rosetta stone Spanish . i just started couple of weeks ago. I don’t think it will teach normal conversation from the beginning.

  • Yes, it’s considered one of the best programs, however it’s quite expensive. Another program which has a good reputation is Pimsleur and it’s less expensive.

  • Try Ouino Spanish before making your decision, I tried both programs and Ouino was a lot more helpful for me.
