Does Sparing The Rod, Spoil The Child?

I feel that a minor slap on the butt at ages 7 and below will get their attention quickly, but beyond this is abuse… Tell me who you feel.

  • Having sucessfully raised happy healthy sucessful children, I can agree with you that a minor slap on the butt is a good pusishment so long as you explain exactly what they did wrong and why they are being punished and that you love them but that you cannot tolerate unallowable behavior. When they are teenagers, I recommend that you take them to the police station and introduce them to a policeman and then sit there in the lobby and explain a few reasons you will bring them there…..such as any time you catch them with drugs, drug paraphenalia, stolen or shoplifted items, or any vandalism. And back up what you say. When they are under peer pressure, they will readily admit to their peers that bad ideas are out for them because their parents will take them to the police and have already proven it. On the other hand, I strongly say that no child should ever go a day without a firm hug and an “I love you”! Children who grow up without physical/verbal affection and without physical/psychological discipline end up messed up for life. Hope this helps.

  • I think that to some extent It does spoil the child because for most people standing your child in the corner doesn’t work and then the child tends to think they can get away with anything and then you make them think that they are in control.A minor tap on the bottom will hurt there feelings and make them recognize who has the athority

  • No,you first tell your child why what he/she has done is wrong and warn, the second time you warn again for the same wrong done and if it is done the third time you will not spare the rod and spank the the back,it sends amessage to the brain.
