  • If you’re asking what it takes to become a locomotive engineer, essentially you’ll need prior rail experience in a lower level area, have a clean criminal, financial, and driving history, and be 18 or older with at least a high school diploma.
This job is extremely time consuming. At an entry level, be prepared to work odd and long hours as well as weekends and holidays. The rail industry works off seniority, so the longer you’re with the company, the more the working conditions improve. Regardless, you will be spending a lot of time away from home in all kinds of weather conditions at all hours of the day. Personally, I love the ever-changing lifestyle, so it appealed to me. Good luck to you!
