Good comeback to someone who doesn't believe in evolution?

When I say i believe in evolution some dick head comes to say okay “climb your *** on that tree like a monkey then”. What should I say back?

  • The best comeback to anything is knowledge. So how about you go get yourself some instead of asking people to respond on your behalf.

  • I think it’s a mistake to say you “believe” in evolution, as you would “believe” in religious mythology. Isn’t it more accurate to say “I’m convinced that the overwhelming scientific evidence proves that species evolution is a fact.” If they still make stupid comments like that one you quoted, just look puzzled and ask them, straight-faced “What does that have to do with anything?” When they come back with “You think you’re descended from a monkey, dude” you say “No, humans share a large percentage of DNA with apes but we are NOT descended from monkeys. We, and modern apes, are descended from an ancient ancestor that had some traits we and the apes share. I’ll be glad to recommend some basic science texts you could read to educate yourself about it, if you’d like.”

    I learned long ago that snappy comebacks are wasted effort on dumb@sses. Better to maintain one’s intellectual cool and not stoop to their level.

  • Kindly explain to them that while we are technically monkeys*, our evolution has been focused mainly on social interaction, language and tool use, with comparably little inate climbing ability.

    *cladistically, we are the sum of our parts. Our ancestors undoubtedly include what we would describe as monkeys.

  • That he’s uneducated. We didn’t come from monkeys and no scientist ever said that. Bible thumpers said that because they were mad and scared that evolution dared to challenge their closed minded beliefs. We are cousins of apes….with a common ancestor, but we didn’t come from them. Tell him to crack a book other than the Bible.
