Henna Tattoo designs?

Are there certain designs that people who don’t use henna for cultural/traditional use shouldn’t do? I mean I know people usually do Henna when they’re having a wedding, but would someone find it offensive if they saw another person who had henna for pure enjoyment and fun with a design found on brides offensive? I only ask because my ex roommate who was Afghanistan used to do henna on me and my other roommate and would say that sometimes her uncles and aunts would get mad when they saw people using designs that signified things regarding culture and tradition. And if so, what designs would they be? For example, if I was to put a henna lotus flower with swirls on my arm would that seem unoffensive?

  • No, because if someone who doesn’t like body art sees it, they’ll take offence.

Henna does not, and never has, belonged to any one culture. It has been used from Ancient Greece and Egypt, all the way to Morocco and India and now, in every corner of the globe. You might as well say only Americans should wear denim jeans, since Americans invented them.
