Highway weigh station?

Hello folks,

I was just wondering what a highway weigh station is for. Why do we need it? Is there any way that we can pre-register with the government and not have to check in at one those stations? What will happen if we don’t stop and check in?

Thanks!!

If you arnt driving a big rig (18 wheels) don’t stop if you are driving one you already know the answer//// your only allowed so much weight on each axle as not to put too many psi on the road surface/

It is to check the weight of trucks and their cargo. They help with the taxes for each state based upon the weight. They also check if the truck is above the safety guidelines set for the cargo or state.

Highway weight stations are in place to help offset the cost of damage done to the highways by freight carriers.

A semi carrying a trailer that weighs 90K pounds will put more wear on the road surface than a passenger car.

By weighing the vehicles they can determine how much they should be taxed based on the damage to the roadway.

Normally, only commercial vehicles need to stop.

If a commercial vehicle doesn’t stop they can be fined.
