how can i get a great credit score?

here is the thing, i lived in a apartment where at the time i wasn’t making much money only baby sitting here and there, and i would give the money to my mom who would write the landlord and bills a check every month because i didn’t set up a bank account because i wasn’t sure if the money would keep coming in or if it would slow down and stop coming in

i looked up to see if i have any credit score and nothing came up under my name because the bills came in under my moms name

i got a bank account a few months back and moved out of the apartment to live at hime to save up my money so i could put it to buying property that i found at a great price but the landholder does a credit check just like anyone would and i don’t know my credit score or if i have any at all, now that i have no bills in my name how can i get great credit scores with out having ot look in to it i hear that if you check out what your score is they will take points away from you? is there a way to check it out with out having them take points away i just want to know what it is and how to ake it better even if it is good

  • If you looked up your credit reports at Experian, Trans Union and Equifax and found that you do not have anything under your name and social security number, you will not have a credit score. There is no way to calculate a credit score without information contained in credit reports. Checking your own credit reports does not count as a “hard” inquiry, so it will not impact your reports or score negatively.

The challenge you will have right now is getting creditors to give you a first chance because you don’t have any history. To get started, you may need to have your mom co-sign on any leases or loans (including credit cards). After you’ve shown you pay your bills on time, you’ll be able to get credit in your own name. It will take a while (possibly a couple years).

Go to the FICO website (www.myfico.com) where you can find information on how to establish credit and achieve a high credit score. Also, there was a good article in Money magazine a couple months ago that showed people who had very high (800+) credit scores and explained how they reached that level.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • They do not take away points if you check it yourself.

They do take away points if someone else checks it.

The only way that you can check it and lose points is if you ask someone else to check it and tell you what they found.

If you check it yourself, then you lose no points.
