How could I sleep on a jetski?

I want to plan an overnight jet-ski trip, I have everything planed except for where to sleep, I thought about buying an inflatable life raft and inflating it when i want to sleep then towing it behind my jet-ski but then i looked online and noticed that life rafts cost a lot of money. i also thought about getting in an sleeping bag and bunge cording it down then noticed that that is stupid, any ideas

  • It’s a dumb idea if you can’t anchor nor go ashore. I wouldn’t do it. There are just too many things that can and will go wrong.
  • What you are planning is rather risky .

However , I would suggest you obtain one of those semi-toy inflatable PVC dinghies , that most beach resorts sell , about 6 foot long .

Carry that uninflated , plus a basic air-pump to inflate it .

When you stop for the night , inflate it and sleep in that , fully dressed in your wetsuit , with the inflated dinghy very , very securely moored to your jetski .

Come the dawn you will wake early and freezing cold , so at that point fire up your jetski and deflate the raft .

Afloat adrift all night without lights you will be highly vulnerable , but unless you ” camp out ” in the middle of a busy shipping lane , the sea is a big place , and God looks after fools , so you probably wont get run down .
    Unless you are unlucky .

You COULD try using a flashing orange light , of the highways works type .
Submarines exhibit one , when running on the surface , so that might keep shippng away from you – or you might get a pre-dawn shower of depth charges .

I’d take plenty of fresh water , some high nutrition breakfast bars individually wrapped in waterproof plastic bags , and a flask of hot coffee , just in case you get stuck .

  • Zach, Zach, the jet-ski maniac. . .

    It is against the law!
The reason PWCs don’t have navigation lights, is that it is against the law to use them after dark.

If you own a Jet-Ski, you should know it is against the law to use your jet-ski on the water after dark and before daylight. In fact, the rule is no PWC’s on the water from 1 hour before sunset. . . until 1 hour after daylight. So, what you purpose will get you one big fine, and possibly arrested, and you could loose your jet-ski over it.

That’s right, just look up the law. Jet-Skis can only be on the water during the day. The USCG will take you off, and if you have the money, you will have to pay Boat US, or SEA Tow, or someone, to rescue your Jet Ski – as the USCG will not tow or rescue your vessel. Their job is to save lives, not boats.

But that’s not to say such a long distance voyage is out of your reach. . . You just have to plan your voyage to be off the water at night. I have a friend who went around the Great Loop on his Jet-Ski – over 5,8 miles. He and another friend of his went to boatyards and found junked out jet-skis with no motors, (I think they got one free and one for $10) and after some major ‘stripping and adaptions’ towed the old jet-skis behind them, loaded with fuel, provisions & supplies, tents, sleeping bags, etc. They of course, were off the water at night, stayed in motels some, and camped out some.

NOTICE: Here’s a link, scroll down to the bottom of this link’s page – you will see my friend Larry – who traveled 5,8 miles on his Jet-Ski in 87 days. (notice the jet-ski behind him, is packed with provisions, fuel, and supplies)

  • a couple of questions that need answering. Do you have the correct lighting for night running & drifting on your jetski? If you’re going so far that an overnight stop is needed mid trip – will you have enough fuel or are you planning to refuel on the water? What is you escape plan if something goes wrong? Weather changes?

If you do go ahead with it why not just wrap a space round yourself, & sit up for the night? Probably safer than sleeping on the water without a lookout.

  • I would suggest buying like a big square box and tying it to the backseat of the jetski. Then, take a pillow or the backrest of the chair, tie it to the box. Buy a sleeping bag and just like sit back and sleep. But you might still fall because of the high tides at night. Just be careful and Enjoy.

  • Bigger question.

Jet Ski’s last about 3 hours at best before needing to refill the gas tank. How will you solve that problem? Are their water gas stations at docks you can drive to on your trip?

I used to lay back to try to take a nap on my jet ski. I used the handles has the pillow head area. My legs were off to the side. I laid on my back. It was comfortable for about 30 minutes, and then it got uncomfortable. You can also buy a large tube, about $3 or so.

  • Definitely not a good idea just don’t do it. Very dangerous. http://www.captainraymonds.com
