My brother-in-law has been staying with us for 5 weeks now and his personal hygiene is poor to say the least.
The whole room smells terribly – the quilt, pillow and mattress especially, but I suspect the curtains and the carpet aren’t doing too good either.
I have guests staying in that very room next weekend and although I hope to have him out of the room for at least a week before they arrive, I might end up having only 24 hours to get rid of all the smell and bring the room to the warm, welcoming and fragrant enviroment it used to be!
Any tips on how to get rid of stubborn, disgusting odours from fabrics?

Spray everything with a disinfectant including the mattress – clean everything that can be cleand in the washing machine (perhaps get the curtains cleaned professionally).
Leave the window WIDE open and the door to get the nasty smells out.
Then leave some nice popperee (or however you spell it..) in the room and leave the window open a little bit.

Three steps:
1.) Get rid of the source of the stench.
2.) Wash/Launder what you can.
3.) Fabreeze!!!
Aside from laundering, try Fabreeze. Then put your foot down and tell your brother-in-law that if he wishes to stay in your home, he has to practice better hygiene since you all have to live there too.
I hate to admit it , but I have a son that is much like your relation. I used lemon juice everywhere. It’s a natural deodorizer / disinfectant / cleaner.
Also, “Febreze – extra strength” works really well for strong bad odors.

One of my sons has extremely bad body odor. I had to learn from an older lady that I took care of in a nursing facility.
Try using Zoflora, it’s an antibacterial disinfectant so not only will it kill off any germs and bacteria that may be the cause of the smell, its lasting fragrance neutralises odour. Add a few drops to your detergent drawer when you wash all the bed linen to freshen the sheets and make sure they are completely germ-free! Also you can dilute some Zoflora with water and use as a spray. You can use this on the mattress, curtains, duvet and carpet, and if used to wipe down the radiators, when they are turned on next the smell will evaporate throughout the room. Also if you have any old potpourri in the house you can add a few drops to that and put it in the room for a little extra freshness. Wash the curtains etc but the mattress and carpet can be sprayed with fibreeze or you can use surgical spirit in water and spray it everywhere it smells so fresh and you know the room is deep cleaned.
Burn everything!
