  • Generally speaking, if you quit or get fired, there is a 99.99% chance that you will be NOT be entitled to receive any Unemployment Insurance benefits. That’s because it was YOUR fault that you lost the job. About the only way you can qualify for U.I. benefits is if you are laid off or the business closes down (not your fault). If you quit because of “unsafe or poor working conditions,” you have to be able to prove it, and it’s the employer’s word against yours. You would not likely win that argument.

    As far as filing a claim (if you qualify), you have to file immediately upon termination from the job. Every week that you wait is a week’s benefits that you lose.
