How many minutes break are you allowed if you work 5 or more hours a day?

Depends on where you’re from:

During each shift in excess of five consecutive hours of work, an employee is entitled to at least a one-half hour break, except where it is unreasonable or impossible. The break can be paid, or unpaid, at the employer’s discretion.

This means that where a shift is less than 5 hours in length the employer is not obliged to provide a rest period. Where the shift is longer than 5 hours (e.g. 8 or 9 hours) the obligation of the employer is to provide at least 30 minutes of break time sometime during the shift. The 30 minutes can be taken in one unbroken period but may be provided as two 15-minute or three 10-minute breaks.

For a non-exempt employee it would be 15 minutes.

Anytime worked up to 5 hours would be one 15min break. Anytime worked up to 8 hours would be two 15min breaks and 1/2 hour lunch. The actual time on the clock would be nine hours, to account for the two 15mins and the 1/2 hour.

This was how it worked at my place of employment.

in michigan it’s a 12 minute break every 2 hours.

In Canada (I am in Canada) in an 8hr day you get 2 – 15 minute and 1-1/2hr break. you get the 15mins on a 5-6hr shift…6.5 you get one 15 and one 1/2 then if you work 8 you get 2 – 15 and a 1/2. The first 15 after you worked for 2hrs the next ( the 1/2hr) 2hrs after that and the last 15- 2 hours after the 1/2.

It depends upon where you are working.

Contact you Labour Relations Board for your local government. They will tell you. If you are not being given the correct time for a break you will have to contact them to file a complaint.

I’m a store manager in California. If you work under six hours you are REQUIRED to take only a ten minute break. That is all an employer has to give you under 6 hours.

It depends on government regulations and the company policy. Always check your employment contract. Typically it is about 30 mins, 45 mins or 1 hour.

Well it depends sometimes on the job, state, and sometimes supervisor but technically if it is 5 hours or more it should be 1 15 min brake preferably every 2 hours. Most companies especially if you are in customer service try to spac out your time so that there is coverage.

Federal Law requires if you work 40 hours a week , 8 hours a day , that you get 2 ,15 minute breaks and a half hour break daily Now if you work 5 hours a day you are only required a half hour break or 2,15 minute breaks . This is called part time . Same goes for anyone working up to 8 hours . 8 hours and over get the half hour lunch and the 2 ,15 minute breaks
