Okay I work in a tearoom which has about 15 tables in it. There is another person to help me over lunch but at 2 they leave and I have to:
Serve all customers
Make up toasted sandwiches, filled rolls etc
Make coffees like lattes, cappachino’s etc
Clear all tables
Wash and dry all dishes.
To me this seems like a lot of work for one person especially when the tearoom is busy plus other smaller cafes in the area have at least 2 staff on at all times.
Should I say something to my boss or just forget it and get on with it?

You should ALWAYS let your boss know how you feel. I think there should be 1-2 people serving the tables and another 1-2 people preparing the food/drinks.
Min of 2 people! I personally would have 3 tables per server. That’s how I ran a cafe when I was manager back in HS.
However I don’t know how slow it gets after 2. You may be able to swing it alone for a few but not past 3:30 – 4: that’s when a new rush will start coming in.
Yes If your boss is there ask them to help you tell them you have to much to do. I have yet to see a boss who wouldn’t help:)
One person. You seem to be getting the job done, why should I hire more? If Scotland is anything like America right now, you are lucky to have a job. 3 more people got laid off at my work today. Though I know that means some of their crap will be piled on me, I thank God that I still have a job. In a matter of 3 days, we received over 4 applications for an entry level position. That position will remain unfilled. Times are tough.
I worked at a restaurant that had a bar, so after 2, 2:30 we would only have the bartender and another server waiting tables. If you can handle it, I wouldn’t complain (more money). But if its too much, I would ask if they could stay a little later.
You’ll get more tips with less people helping you. Plus, you are going on a fabulous all expenses paid 1 month vacation in the exotic Dubai in the UAE where you will visit the famous Prison Man Pyramids of Abhugabhi.
You probably should kiss your boss’ assa little.
I think every table should have at least sixteen people serving it – if every restaurant saw to this , there would be no unemployment and no problem waiting for the bill .
I would say something, like either give me a raise or hire another person because that’s a ton of work to do on your own.
