I am an after school park district instructor for an affluent Chicago suburb. I coach travel and house league basketball teams there and I’m also a summer camp counselor.
Recently, I’ve been asked to chaperone a birthday party for one of the kids in my Tuesday class. The invite reads: “First name Last name’s Birthday-Sports with Coach Keith”. Since I’m being advertised, does that make a difference in asking price? I’ve never done these parties alone. I’ve done them before with other coaches and we charged $40/hr.
I’m asked to bring 20 basketballs (supplied by the park district) and have seen the invite list of 30+ kids. In most cases, invitees will bring their siblings as well as parents (as expected). How much should I ask for 2 hours of interaction with a bunch of energized 6 year olds? The park district pays me $22.50/hr..

I would Charge 25 to 30 Dollars an hour beings that is an average of what every American makes an hour.
Since it’s an affluent area, charge what you are worth.
I doubled my rates and got much better respect, so I doubled them again, and I included all my travel time.
It’s up to you to realize your own worth.
