How often do you need to clean out your sav/Bosc monitor enclosure?

Can’t find an answer anywhere, I know proper care requires 24 inches of substrate so they can burrow. But how often do you need to completely replace this? And also as most sites are american what is the best place to find all this substrate in the uk? And do they do their business in their burrows?

Thanks

  • this depends on the size of your monitor, if its an adult then it’s gonna be doing big turds, this can smell and cause infections if it is not spot cleaned daily, on top of spot cleaning i would recommend cleaning all the substrate out at least every month, obviously it can be quite expensive so dont worry too much if its every 6 weeks. just keep spot cleaning and removing any soiled substrate. with younger monitors i would suggest every 5/6 weeks on top of spot cleaning. monitors and almost all other reptiles just poop whenever they need to wherever they are, i find that actually most reptiles poop in their water dishes . . . not helpful at all but thats just what they do.

as to the substrate, http://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/reptile-supplies/r… these guys are great when it comes to anything reptile! you can buy big bags of substrate and i’m sure if you give them a call they will offer you discount if you buy several bags at once. i buy everything from them, all their products are fantastic quality and the delivery is brilliant, its fast and a decent price!
