How should I hide a wall that I want to spruce up and decorate, but cannot paint or repaper?

I live with my parents and it’s our kitchen wall. I started pulling out things to begin decorating for the holidays today and realized how ugly the wall paper looks. I’m planning to hang wreaths and some other decorations on it eventually.

  • My old apartment had one wall that had ugly wood paneling, so I used a fabric shower curtain and pinned it in a way that you couldn’t see the pins. and on another wall I put up window treatments even though there wasn’t a window on that wall. Everyone always complimented the way it looked, so maybe it would work for you.

  • Get some fabric from a craft store and pin it up on the wall with push pins (or even gorilla tape on the backside- beware it will take off the wallpaper when removing, though). Look around the craft store and see if there’s not any other way to pin it up to make it look less tacky.

There’s tons of fabric with festive patterns or just go with a nice solid holiday color.

    – I love the window treatment idea below. I would make it a window and have a holiday scene “outside” of it. How cool!

  • What you could do is tack some sheets to your wall until it is covered. Plain sheets would be the best or something that goes with the room. Just make sure you don’t leave any creases in the sheets. Pull tight and tack. Make sure you use alot of tacks, but they don’t cost very much. And also make sure the sheets match. This will look nice and then you can decorate. Have fun decorating.

  • maybe drape some fabrics in a decorative way and maybe put a kind of side table and a vase of flowers and your wreaths.. that would probably cover up most of the wall…

  • maybe a string of blinkly lights around the wreathes would look nice

  • Lots and lots of family photo’s could be glued or pinned to the wall.
