How to chane oil on 3.0l 4 stroke mercruiser 1975 outboard boat?

I just recently bought a boat n I want to do the oil change… I can find the drain plug b I was assuming it was like a 4 cylinder car.. plz some help..

  • There is a drain plug, but you cant access it, the bottom of the boat is in the way. To remove the oil from the engine you need to suck it out the dipstick tube with a pump designed for the job. There are several types of pumps on the market, here are a couple of different ones:

    Warm your engine to operating temperature, attach the pump to the dipstick tube, remove the oil, place a container below the oil filter, then remove the filter. Have plenty of rags on hand to clean any spills. Make sure to lubricate the oil filter gasket when installing the new filter. Hand tighten only.

  • I suggest getting hold of the manual or at least the owners handbook for the model you’ve got. That should give you the information you need.
    On a lot of outboards the drain bolt is quite small, you need to remove the oil filler cap as well before the oil will drain.
