First of all connect the wifi router to the computer using an ethernet cable from the WAN port of the wifi router to the LAN (Ethernet) port of your computer. Put on both computer and router. Press the reset button at the back of the router for 10 seconds. In the computer open a browser and in its address bar type in http://192.168.1.1/ Use admin as User ID as well as password. Refer your router manual for details. Now the web based configuration page will open. Change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.8 to avoid IP clash with the modem. Name a wifi connection and enable security with a password. Save and log out. Now disconnect the router from the computer and connect it to the modem from the WAN port to the modems any LAN port. connect the modem to the computer. When you put on your lap top the newly named wifi connection will be detected by your lap top. Provide the password to activate the connection.
