How To Get An Abandoned Title?

I live in VA and I bought a car in MD that has no title and brought it home to use as a parts car. The title was lost between owners as far as I can tell and I think it is a MD issued title. I would like to obtain the title for this vehicle but I am not sure how to do it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • You cannot get a title. Only the true owner can get a title. You;ve been snookered.

  • I would try to get in touch with a title company there. Here in Oklahoma, we have something called a title 42 which is a process that allows you to obtain a title through a public sale. You are basically selling the car to yourself. The tax commission will check to see if there are any liens on the vehicle. It is a lot to easier to pay a title company/ service to do this for you. Check craigslist, most of them are reasonable in price. I’m not sure what the process for that is there, but surely it would be similar. Good luck
