How to put an mkv file onto a DVD?

Hi, I have this MKV file and I want to keep at least two of the four languages and subtitles, if not all.

The trouble is that the MKV file won’t fit onto a normal DVD. Any ideas on how to make a working DVD just like the original?

I’ve tried to convert it to a mpg using “Any Video Converter” which has allowed me to put it onto a DVD but there are no languages or subtitles.

Thanks for any help.

  • It depends on whether you’re making a data disc with the original mkv to play on a computer or Blu-ray player (just putting the mkv on the disc without converting it) or if you want to convert it to standard dvd video format to play it on any dvd player. Note you will lose video quality if you convert and if it’s in hd, the dvd won’t be.

For the first, you can split the mkv into more than one part and use more than one disc (you can cut mkvs with programs like AviDemux – set the audio and video to “copy”). Or put it on a large enough usb flash/hard drive that you don’t need to cut it.

If you want to make a standard dvd, all-in-one dvd authoring software should accept the mkv and let you choose the audio tracks and subtitles you want. I think DVDStyler will work (though some recent reviews are saying it’s buggy…). If it has trouble with all the audio tracks, you can always extract them (and the subtitles) first and add the ones you want to the project manually. MKVcleaver works well for extracting audio and subtitles.

  • as for dvd format u have to convert the file into dvd format first..then copy it to a folder and also copy a file located at the original file which u had converted and then play u will have subtitles..

  • The first but also one very important step is to convert mkv file into dvd compatible format. This course can use one video convert tool to help you.Since your tool has no languages or subtitles which is your need. You can search one MPEG-4 video converter on google which can also convert mkv format to ohter formats such as mp4 and vob (the dvd video format). Then you can convert the converted vob files to dvd with nero or dvd creator burning software.

  • MKV is a new arising multimedia container format, compared to some old container formats such as AVI, MP4 etc. If you want to put an mkv file onto a dvd so that you can watch them on your home DVD player, You should need a MKV to DVD converter software or may be named dvd creator software. Then in order to find how to operate the course easily, you should google how to convert MKV video to DVD to get revelant guide.
