David Cameron mentioned fairly recently the possibility of Celtic and Rangers being invited into the English Premier League. This raises the question of what is the best way to incorporate Scottish teams into the English Premier League (effectively making it the British Premier League), dealing with relegation and promotion in as fair a way as possible. There is no perfect solution, but what do you think is the best?
An example solution is:
There is one automatic promotion spot from the English Championship, and another automatic spot from the Scottish Premier League. There is then a play-off, consisting of teams 2-4 in the Championship, and the second placed team in the SPL. The bottom 3 teams from the Premiership are still relegated to their respective (English/Scottish) leagues. As there may be a difference between the number of teams getting relegated from the Premiership into the English Championship/SPL and promoted from the same league (e.g. 1 team may get relegated into the Championship, but 2 teams may get promoted from there) , the question then is how to deal with this imbalance. One possibility is to keep the number of teams in the English Championship and SPL constant give or take a single team, by reducing or increasing the number of relegation places from the Championship/SPL, so lower divisions can help absorb any promotion/relegation imbalances.

Why should a 3rd division team now 2nd division take priority over SPL clubs to?
The fans are happy with what we have its the money men who want this, if it ever happens i will give up my season ticket. David Cameron has just once again showed how out of touch he is with Scotland.
Put them both in conference and leave them work their way up ….. Will never happen tho
