  • Well there could be many reasons this kitten is behaving this way. 1. If the kitten is hiding under the couch it might be frightened of people or not be comfortable around its surroundings.2. If the kitten was seperated from its litter and mother at that age then this may happen because it just needs to get comfortable. As too the question of will it stop, that may or may not happen. Things you can do are simply get it to interact with you more and take it slow because its still young. Also make a area for it too sleep in maybe in a small room with food, bed, litter box ect. This may help it get used to its new home. Most of all interact with this kitten as much as possible.

  • This is actually pretty common. Try to set up a room that you can keep the kitten in until she settles down a bit and gets used to the environment. My kitten is currently set up in the bathroom (where the most mischief she can get into is jumping into the bath) – we make sure everyone who comes into the house knows to be careful when using the bathroom and we’ve got a sign telling people to leave the toilet seat down.

You have to remember that for your 9 week old kitten, this is a new and scary world. She’s been taken away from her mother and litter mates, she has been taken to a new place with people she doesn’t know, maybe even other animals that she doesn’t know or species she hasn’t seen before. She’s stressed and scared and right now needs some place quiet until she gets her bearings and realizes that it’s not so scary after all.

Keep her in ‘her’ room if you are able to set one up for at least a couple of days. If it is a bathroom or bedroom, use it normally and let her get used to you. Spend some time with her each day, even if she’s in spare room. Just talk to her and sit with her and let her come to you. When she does, pat her gently. Leave her litter box and food accessible to her at all times. Then after a couple of days, you can start by opening the door and letting her explore the room directly adjacent to her room. Don’t let her go into the rest of the house, just those two rooms. Let her do so in her own time. Keep doing this until she is comfortable in all the rooms.

All the best and good luck.

  • Oh, hun dont worry. It’s probably just scared, but If you dont want her to keep running under the couch then you might want to temporarily line up shoes near the cracks of the couch. or you can put pilllows or something to fill up the space. She will get used to you though dont worry. Maybe you can try speaking to her in the nicest voice possible and pet her and comfort her after a few days im pretty sure she will stop doing this. I hope everything goes well with your new kitty. Good Luck!!!!!!!

  • If it is a new kitten you just adopted then it just needs time to adjust. Also all cats hunt so maybe it try’s to hunt beacause some cats think that feet or hands are eniimies so they hide then attack. If I dosnt stop doing this by 1 month or 2 or so then I sujest to go to the vet and check the kitten out I hope this helped

  • Just give her time. She’s stressed from being in a new place. Once she starts feeling safe, she’ll come out.

Best thing to do is stop trying to get her out. Keep the noise level down. Don’t shout. If you have one, offer to play with a string toy. But mostly don’t harass her.

You can also try laying or sitting on the floor and just waiting. When she comes out, call her over softly. Don’t grab for her though. She needs time to learn you won’t hurt her.

  • It is normal for a cat to go under your couch for the 1st to 3rd day of your adoption. They take time to absorb new surrounding and get familiar with all the smell in their new home. Just let them hide there for a few hours, do not force them to come out for this will result them to scare. My experience, if this is the only cat in the house it will come out after 3-5 hrs (sometime less than that) but if there is another cat in the house then sometimes it will take up to 1-3 days..however, it still will come out when they are hungry but still they will be back to their hiding place. what i do, i will place a food and water near them and try not to get excited on them whenever they come out to eat.maybe after 1 or 2 meal, you can try playing with them by using something like a string ( example : ribbon) by tossing it under the couch and pull it out. do this slowly until they come out in the open, do not force them to come out if they do not want to. let them do it on their own term, but i really recommended to play with them for them to get comfortable with their new owner.Hope this will help, take care of your pets and good luck.

  • when I first got my cat I got a Persian male kitten from petstore and I had the same problem. There was no way to stop him from doing what he did everyday pretty much until he grew out of it. that was just a particular stage in his little life.

  • What you should do is put the kitten in a small room so it can get it’s bearings and get use to your house. The poor thing is just scared.

  • put her in a small room with her food water and litter pan and keep the door closed. Visit her often until she is used to the house.
