I now have a 2000 explorer eddie bauer with 4.0.sohc.?

When I start it up it goes to 15 rpms an then cuts off. I restart it then it goes to about 5 rpms then idles at 7 rpms. What is it? Need tuneup?

  • It could be a bad TPS(throttle position sensor), bad or dirty IAC(idle air control) sensor, dirty MAF(mass airflow) sensor, dirty TB(throttle body), intake manifold vacuum leak(due to a bad gasket), broken or leaking vacuum line, etc. Any of these can cause erratic idle and engine stalling.
