I want to dye my hair blonde? Help?

I’m and for about two years all I have done with my hair is had highlights they have kind of grown out now but my natural hair colour is gross it’s a mousey brown I hate it! I’m pale and I have blue eyes and I really want to dye my hair blonde but the hairdressers is just too expensive, so is there any box hair dyes that are really good and will get good results? And should I just dye it with a box dye then keep going over it until it goes the blonde I want? I have no idea how to go about it….advice please??

  • If you want it to look good the best thing you can do is save your money and have it done at the salon.

Blonde is a very dodgy colour to do yourself. I have highlights that combine my natural mousy colour with a nice blonde. This means that when they grow out – it’s not as obvious. Definitely go into brighter blondes gradually. Don’t just go straight for bright. It doesn’t always suit and it’s hard to get back from.

Also, it’s best to go to the salon the first time you’re experiencing a new colour because they can give you advice and tell you which colour is best – then when it needs redoing you can get the box and do it yourself based on the advice they’ll have given you. 🙂

  • Hi…

I have silver ash blonde (my hair in my pic) that I dye myself, and I’m also pale like you. I don’t like going to salons because I don’t feel happy when I don’t get my moneys worth and they either cut too much, or don’t give me the colour I want.

If you have a beauty supply store in your area that would be best, but other dyes you can use are schwartskopff live xxl ash blonde, revlon ash blonde etc etc. The thing is that my natural hair colour is already blonde, that is why I just dye, and don’t bleach. I don’t know how dark your natural colour is. And blonde is also higher maintenence. If you choose to dye, I would recommend always choosing a colour that is ashed based, which leaves you with a cooler toned blonde, combined with a silver or purple shampoo to tone out any brassy yellow colours, like Lee Stafford purple shampoo, available at drugstores. Other than that, as hard as it is, I only ever dye my hair once a month (I take biotin supplements so my hair grows faster, and its super annoying having slightly darker roots, but I rigidly take good care of my hair and do not want it to get chemically damaged). When I do my hair every month, I only ever touch up the roots, never further down (this obviously after you have achieved the colour you want, which I achieved by dying a few times, not bleaching at all). When I do my roots, I do the previously dyed roots once more over, so effectively every month I have my natural golden blonde roots, the lighter once dyed section, and then the full silver ash blonde down to the ends. I know it sounds strange, but it blends really well because it gradually lightens, but not really like an ombre way because its only the top – inches of my hair.

I really love my hair and think its one of my best features. And think that in this day and age with so many products to cater to every hair type and colour wish, that every woman can and should have beautiful hair.

Unfortunately you need to experiment a little yourself and find what works best for you. So be brave, but not stupid.

Lastly, if you choose to select a box dye (if you are not able to go to a beauty supply store and ask a consultant there for help or advice), you need to realise and accept that it is damaging to your hair in the same way that bleaching is. You need to take super good care of your hair, which means no heat, try to protect it from sun damage, use deep conditioners, use sulphate free shampoo, coconut oil etc. Like I said, I take rigidly good care of my hair, but it shows. Hair is your best and most beautiful accessory.

  • The easiest wat to get blonde is to use a Hair Lightener. However, you should go about it the right way. Get a box of lightener and a box of the blonde shade you want when you mix the lightener, use just HALF of one of the powder packettes and the entire tube of lightening creme apply to strips of your hair where you want highlights and wait for to mins. then apply mixture to remaining hair wait another mins. and rinse then shampoo lightly dry hair then apply your blonde color the highlighted strips should come out lighter than the rest of the hair. When you retouch, apply just the blonde color to the new growth and wait the full developing time if color needs refreshing, put color on the rest of the hair for the last five min. of development time.

    Hope This Helps.

    Good-Luck!!

  • You’ll need to bleach your hair first and than you can put the blond hair dye you would like over it. Dying hair blond is always a bit risky doing it yourself.

  • I think blonde hair is actually sexiest, but brown hair can be really sexy too. Black hair is never sexy. It’s just really uninteresting and boring and flatters few complexions. Blonde hair looks best with blue eyes.

  • blondes tend to be less common so they are dealt with exotically or like a novelty.

  • It sounds wrong but it works….lemon juice and sunlight.
