I want to get into estate agency when I'm older. What GCES would I need to take?

I’m 13 and choosing my options next year. I’ve wanted to be an estate agent for quite a while and i’m not sure what GCSES i’d need in order to achieve this. Don’t make fun, I know i’m not really aiming for the stars but it’s what i’d like to do someday.

  • English & Maths, but UK Estate Agents do not expect anything much as training is given on the job. You will need a driving licence.

  • As said the basics. English Maths perhaps Geography. Estate Agents are managed by a qualified surveyor or architect. The workers are called negotiators. Negotiators are trained on the job and the salary is poor as you are expected to earn a bonus with house sales. So unless you are prepared to work your socks off you may be disappointed. In bad times negotiators are the first to be sacked.

If you are really interested in property as well as sales you would be much better off qualifying as a surveyor. New surveyors often start in estate agencies and are valued above negotiators for obvious reasons.

  • Anything at all will do for this as no formal qualifications are needed…if I were you I’d aim high though and do business studies so that you can have your own business within a few years of starting out.

  • Maths & English a must but we like business & politics !!
