If I have a travel trailer that I am loaning to a friend, if he puts insurance on it will that be ok?

Friend is borrowing a travel trailer i own, he is going to put insurance on it and use it with my plates until they decide to buy it in month. If they were to have an accident would I be liable for anything if they carry the insurance?

  • He can’t insure a trailer that he does not own.

You will need to be listed as the insured on the policy.
You can choose to list him as a co-insured.
But he can not insure it in his name. If he does and an accident happens, the insurance company could deny coverage.

Can you get sued if something happens? Absolutely. You are the legal owner of the trailer.

  • Yes that will work, be camping for 45 yrs.

  • MSAD is completely right. The only way you got away with adding that van to your insurance was that the company clearly didn’t know it was not titled in your name. No company would pay out a claim on something that is not insured under the correct name. If you have it insured, though, check with your agent on loaning it to your friend, and he or she can answer these questions for you and make sure it’s actually covered. You don’t want to get involved in a law suit just because the right name wasn’t on the policy!
