If i remove my above ground pool, will my property tax go down?

I live in Warren, MI. The above ground pool is about 9sq ft, pretty much taking up a large chunk of my backyard. My property tax is almost $4,0 a year, while comparable homes nearby are paying barely or almost HALF as much. And I’d like to mention I have a swing set and patio as well.

  • No. You would have to file a tax appeal to try to reduce the assessed valuation. Simply removing the pool will have no impact at all on your current property taxes.

  • No. Above ground pools are not included in property valuations since they are not permanently attached to the land. Similarly the swing set won’t affect the property value. The patio will, but unless it’s very large and ornate it won’t have a significant impact.

If you think that your property valuation is too high, contact the local tax assessor’s office to appeal the valuation.

  • In my state, California, an above ground pool is not part of the property and not taxed. Unless you have to report installing one to your tax assessor it is probably the same there. Your homeowners insurance may go down because there is less risk of loss.

  • Depends when they last assessed your property, there is no way the pool is doubling the value of your property compared to the others your taxes there is some other issue involved

  • when you dismantle these additions to your property you probably need to have the assessor reevaluate your property to determine its new value

the swing set will have no effect

a patio is essentially another room, which would reduce the value of the house

  • definitly
