  • Are you talking about renting a car in your question?

If so, then “most” auto policies will cover you while in a rental, so no need to purchase the rental coverage from the rental company. In “effect”, the rental becomes your “insured” vehicle. But, you need to verify that you have full coverage, since, if only liability, then would cover the other cars damages/injuries if in an accident, but NO coverage for the rental car, and you would need to purchase the coverage for the rental car only.

But,,,,,,please call your insurance company and agent to verify 1st.

  • If you rent a car and have an accident, your insurance company will cover it but you will have to pay the $5 deductible.

If you rent a car and pay the $18 insurance policy, the rental car insurance will pay the entire claim. Including the $5 deductible. So you paid $18 but saved $5. But if you do not have an accident, you wasted $18.

Like all insurance, this is a calculated gamble.

  • Buy your renters insurance from the same company that does your car insurance. The discount you’ll get off of BOTH policies, will be MORE than the cost of the renters insurance.
