I’m looking for a tattoo idea to pay homage to the life of the girl I loved?

Her name is Hazel,I’d thought about incorporating her star sign(Cancer,The Crab),but she only read astrology for fun and assigned it no validity. She was a nature lover,a pet keeper and a bibliophile. She had raven hair and brown eyes. I’d considered a crab spider on a hazel leaf but couldn’t find any images that appeal to me.

I’m open to any and all suggestions based on this scant information.

This is a quite lovely lot of images of hazel leaves which would be easily adapted to a stencil for a tattoo.

I actually find the skeleton of the tree itself quite graphically beautiful…and there may be something symbolic in having it, as I know how Hazel died and how stripped bare you felt over it. And with that image of the fallen leaves comes the promise of renewal too….buds will grow where the leaves used to be.The fallen leaves will fertilise the ground beneath it…feeding the new life on it in the spring. Just as new love will one day grow for you, though that seems very far away right now.

Another idea might be to get an Eye of Horus on the hazel leaf. The eye of Horus is a powerful symbol It is an all-seeing eye, the eye of the god Horus, also known as Ra, the Sky God who was attributed with qualities of light and goodness. I know that Hazel was filled with light and goodness and this might be something which would comfort you. Amulets in the shape of the eye were often found in royal tombs for protection in the afterlife. Graphically it os a beautiful image as well, and so even to those who do not know its significance to you it will be aesthetically pleasing.

This site has some lovely examples of the eye of Horus design…and of many other hieroglyphic images which might be possibilities.

Don’t pay any heed to those saying that when you meet another girl she will resent this tattoo…anyone worthy of you loving them will only find it to be conformation of the depth of your feelings for those you love.

I would suggest sticking to black and shade work for the tattoo…they fade far less and the starkness and simplicity of the monochrome seems somehow much more appropriate than some garish lot of colours all vying for attention.

  • Firstly, I’m sorry you lost someone dear to you. I hope you’re doing ok. 🙂
Also, it’s awesome you want to do something in her memory.

My opinion – a tattoo? If you’re sure then go for it, but I don’t know how that could be for someone. If I died I’d be a bit embarassed if someone did that in my name.

She sounds like a class girl so can’t that tattoo money be used for something more…fitting with her character? Can you donate to a local animal shelter? Have a tree (a hazel perhaps) put in the local park with a plaque so future generations can enjoy nature like she did.
There are many ways which can benefit others and be a true homage to a special girl.

Although the tattoo is just for you, think about future partners who have to look at say “a crab on a leaf” as it ages.
However if you do choose to go through with it, I’d say make it more cryptic. In 50 years you still need it to be classy, right?

    Best of luck.

  • An open book with a hazel twig and leaf in the centre (as a book mark type thing). Or if you know what her favourite book was you could have a closed book with the spine showing the title with the hazel twig and leaf poking out of the top, this could be quite symbolic as it is a part of your life that is now over but still very close to your heart.

I think it’s a great idea, to all those people above TRYING to be funny, try watching Miami/LA Ink. Thousands of people get tattoos to pay homage to their lost loved ones, whether it be a family member a friend or a dog, it’s a beautiful piece of everlasting art.

  • awww im sorry :/
mybe get a tattoo of her or get her name tattooed on to you maybe with hazel eyes or something brown there or maybe her name washed up on the shore with a crab there with hazel eyes (lol) thats to do with nature and her star sign and her name! or maybe a raven bird or something 🙂

sorry to ear about it :'(

  • My friend Mark, his once girlfriend died in a car accident. He got a poem that she had written him tattooed on his back in her own hand writing. This was years ago, and he has moved on, but most of the girlfriends he has had since have been very respectful of the tattoo.

Did you two have any inside jokes together, something only you and her would understand?

I’m sorry for your loss, best wishes.

  • Ah Panther, my heart goes out to you sweetheart.
You might think about a pair of Raven wings, that would cover her love of nature and animals and could represent her spirit soaring free, or a Raven with a Hazel branch in it’s talons.
I’m so sorry for your loss, I hope your spirit finds peace without her.

  • If you have known her for a long enough time and you two are soul mates you should be able to think of a good idea, and if you are not sure how to put it together if you go to a decent tattooist they should be able to design something for you, that will be unique and yours.

  • Perhaps pick one of those images/ideas and integrate….so when you are far away it looks like a (hazel leaf/crab spider) but when you get close it is made of a ton of small books, or different sized books

  • How about a raven (the bird) sitting on a hazel nut? Or a raven sitting on a heart, both black so it looks seamless? Or her name in fancy script under or above a raven?

  • What about an object that the two of you held close to your hearts? Something that only the two of you shared that no one else would understand?

I like your idea, and there has been some good ideas on here.

    ((((Panther))))

  • question what happened to hazel? have you thought of drawing something yourself or maybe instead of a picture a script instead?

  • Just get her name in a gangster calligraphy. Reference, Famous Clothing. Their calligraphy is dope!

  • Get a Raven Bird. Like a Crow.

  • You may think that’s what you want now but you may regret it later once you find someone else! Wait a while…

  • how about a cat on a cloud with brown eyes

  • First of all I am very sorry. Secondly, and please don’t take this the wrong way honey, but if the meaning is personal and strictly for you, then why do you feel the need to pay homage to her in this way? It’s obvious that she’s never going to fade from your memory, why give yourself a physical reminder of the pain and the guilt? You don’t need to punish yourself, sometimes things are only clear to us in hindsight…

  • Your idea sounds lovely but you should include a hazel nut because of its crab-like geometry being a squashed form this almost looks like the nut shape, maybe half crab half nut or blend the two images to look like both at the same time and the nut would soften the crab imagery.

When I did a mural of undersea creatures I used all National Geographic photography to copy from as it has such fantastic detail for all those textures and forms.

I’m a Cancer with brown eyes too we are creative types so would appreciate the idea good luck with it.

Edit~I am not a tattoo wearer because I don’t like unnecessary pain but when a death causes us emotional pain we could do without it would serve to reflect those feelings however when you think of them it will also soothe you and remind you why you loved them.

Sorry for your loss I think its a good reason for a tattoo to remember someone you loved with.
