Info about Acrilic nails?

I want to get my nails done before I go to the beach in a week. I want to get acrilicnails but first I have some question that maybe someone could help me with?

.is it like a fake nail tht goes over your nail to make it longer?

. Do they pop off?

.you have to get them filled every weeks?

. Can you change the paint on them every time you go or by yourself?

. Are gel nails better? If so what are gel nails like?

. Someone people with acrilicnails there fingers look irritated, but does it reall feel like that?

I just need some basic info like that! Thanks 🙂

  • . Acrylic (and gel) nails are typically applied by placing a tip over the tip (duh) of your real nail. Whereas the plastic DIY fake nails usually are sized to go over the whole nail, these are usually intended to go only over the last /-/ inch of your nail. Then, a powder is mixed with a liquid to form a gel (whether gel or a acrylic) which dries rapidly to a hard surface.

. If they are done well, and depending on how much they sanded and/or adhered your real nails, they should not just pop off. This is a double-edged sword: they should be sturdy and withstand all the ins-and-outs of your daily routine, but this means they will require soaking to remove, and removal is sometimes uncomfortable or even painful, since they sand off part of your real nail to make them stick better.

. You don’t /have/ to get them filled, but after two weeks, your nail growth is roughly / inch, which means your nails are / longer now, and hopefully very sturdy and durable. That being said, you will start catching them on things and bumping them into things, because they’re longer than you’re used to, which can be painful and sometimes cause them to come off (which, like I said, isn’t usually a fun process especially if sudden). Getting them filled is about / the cost of the original set, keeps them looking nice until your next set, and keeps them from being painful. Think of it as having a root touch-up every weeks instead of dying your whole head again and again or just walking around with mis-matched roots.

. You can have them painted over when you go in. If you get white tips (or colored tips at all) some polishes will not be opaque enough to cover your tips. If you get clear tips and just want them painted, they can change it each time. You theoretically can paint them yourself; if you have white or colored tips and want to paint over them, this is easy enough and can be done well. Do not attempt to remove polish via polish remover (acetone or otherwise) as this will “melt” the acrylic/gel areas.

. Gel nails are: a) shinier, b) sturdier, c) more expensive. Overall, they last longer and don’t get scratched or dull in the weeks between fills almost ever (in my experience). They are typically only $- more, so I think they’re worth it.

. It depends largely on the sensitivity of your skin/nails and the skill of your technician. Ask around your area to people with acrylics who they go to and how they like that person. The lady my mom and my sister go to is vicious with that grinder, but the nails always come out stunning. My mother chooses to endure the bleeding cuticles for the great end result, but I don’t think it’s worth it (she’s also rude to my mother… Not my sister, not me. But still). The ladies miles away do a bang-up job, are super pleasant, have excellent customer service, are CHEAPER, and have like techs so the wait-time is much lower. Anyway, ask around to find out which places have the best techs in your area, because that will make a serious difference in how your nails feel.
