Information technology network administration vs medical assisting?

I recently received my diploma of medical administration and currently working on my certification. I am 38yo, have a bachelor’s degree in business. I want to pursue a career in either of the 2 fields: healthcare or IT. Now I am thinking of healthcare because I was a caregiver for 4years and it seems like a very in demand career. Now, IT i believe is also a lifelong career. I don’t have actual learning about it but it is something that comes out natural on me. Computers and technology interest me a lot, I can trouble shoot a computer at any point.

Now, being said that. It confuses me of what path to go through: 1. I don’t want my medical schooling to come into waste 2. Starting IT degree is quite expensive.

I don’t understand what you are working on – Medical Administration or Medical Assisting. If it’s the first, unless you are doing an MHA, you are wasting your time and money. Medical Admin certificates and diplomas are worthless. There isn’t a legitimate accreditation organization because you don’t need accreditation to work as a receptionist.

Since you already hold a BBA, the next logical step would have been an MHA or MBA. This would have set you up to work in Health Care Management.

If you are in school for Medical Assisting, I also question this. It’s usually a year long program that’s entry level. Since you already hold a BA, you could have done an accelerated BSN program and been a nurse in 2-2.5 years. Pay is 2-3 times that of an MA and you can actually advance with that degree.

I can’t really offer any great advice. I know that at 38, I wouldn’t want to be in school forever, but I also know that I wouldn’t want to be stuck as an MA/Receptionist making $14/hr for the rest of my life, unless it was as a second income that I enjoyed doing to get out of the house.
