Is $4500 a good price for a jet ski?

I found a 24 honda r-12x for sale with 110 hours, and it comes with a trailer and a clean title. Also it was only used in fresh water. Is that a good price/ what should i offer him. Is the honda pwc even a good choice if not what is?

  • If this PWC comes with a serviced trailer and has a verifiable service record showing regular maintenance, $45 is an OK price. Personally, I would stay away from Honda. Great engine, but a poor hull design. These boats nose dive in high-speed turns, and i find the seat shape uncomfortable for a long ride. Fuel economy- any PWC manufactured after 21 has greatly increased fuel economy (thank EPA for that) over older models, and Honda is at the top. With a 16 gallon fuel tank, you can expect 3-4 hrs cruising at 40- 50 mph, giving you a range of around 150 miles. Here’s the spec sheet on this model:

  • The price is right for 24-26 models.
    And the hours make sense.

It is 9 years old. Imagine that the owner took the jet ski out 6 times per year in the summer time.
Each time, he spent 2 hours jet ski-ing, which I would say is about the average people spend at the water because the gas tank gets empty after 2-3 hours.

    2 hour x 6 times/yr = 12 hours per year.
12 hours/yr x 9 years = 108 hours. He says he has 110 hours on it. That makes complete sense for a 24 model jet ski.

The Honda is a good choice. They are powered differently and do not create nearly as much pollution as the other jet ski’s.

Sea Doo’s are the lowest quality and cheapest Jet Ski’s, but you get lots of power for the price.

Kawasaki and Yamaha are known as the reliable high quality Jet Ski’s.

Honda is relatively new in the Jet Ski world. Not many people have them yet. I have only seen them at the rivers and lakes twice in the last decade that I have been jet skiing in my Kawasaki.

  • I strongly suggest, you look real hard, and give lots of thought into that 110 hours – on a 9 year old jet-ski. Believe it or not – that’s about all you will use it as well. That’s equal to about 20 days of fun on the water.
Oh, I’m not doubting the hours, I’m as positive as possible they are accurate – as that’s about as long as it takes for the ‘new’ to wear off, and for the ‘cost’ to set in.
What you are buying is a $40 to $50 per hour – fuel for fun machine. That’s (BTW) about $3 for a 6 hour day on the water. . .
A Harley Davidson will get 50-75 miles to the gallon. A jet-ski however burns about 10 GPH (gallons per hour).
Just food for thought. . .

Here is what NADA has to say about the value of your Jet-Ski:

It puts a value on it between $3,0 and $3,4

  • THEY WANT $45 OFFER THEM $30. YOU CAN ALWAYS GO UP IN PRICE REMEMBER YOU NEED INSURANCE AND FUEL ALSO SOMETHING TO TOW IT TO THE LAKE AND BEING USED ONLY IN FRESH WATER IS A PLUS.

  • It’s an ok price. I’d offer $30-$32 but I’d look at a sea doo or Yamaha for better quality ride. http://www.captainraymonds.com

  • For a 24 model, I would say it is a bit more. You can get like a new one at $90. A good price for it would be like around $35-38.

  • No! It’s high in the current market.
