Is Accounting an easy major?

I’ve always been somewhat a math whiz and I’ll be majoring in that when I go to college next year. However, I’m also thinking about adding in Accounting as A.) Accounting math is stunningly simple and B.) it will offer me additional employment opportunities post graduation.

  • Accounting and tax is much more about law than math.

In accounting and tax, there’s seldom anything more complicated than add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Accounting is a good skill to know if you’re going to do anything in business. But if you go into it thinking it’s “stunningly simple,” you’ll go down the drain stunningly quickly.

  • 1) Math means almost nothing unless you’re a statistician or actuary

    2) If you want to be a CPA I failed the last exam by a point, I had 4 math questions so the advanced calculus I had didn’t do me much good

    3) Unless you’re an auditor your people skills are pretty important, probably more so that your math skills

    4) The major isn’t hard but calculus is normally required along with some business and computer courses and probably statistics

    5) The people you deal with in the real world are not textbooks, they will find the most bizarre ways to screw things up from bookkeeping to tax returns so there’s a lot of analytical and common sense involved in the real world

  • Accounting is more than just math and is not an easy major. It’s more like knowing which numbers to use & where the numbers go rather than just adding them.

Many professors make their courses hard by using questions on their exams from the CPA exam which is a very difficult exam .

You also have to study business law, auditing, economics, finance, tax

    and several other business courses.

I liked math in school but didn’t like social studies so i didn’t like law or eco.

Those latter courses were boring to me so I took longer to pass CPA exam.

If you like social studies as well and like to read then you should do OK.

Be aware that college math is much more difficult than what you learn in HS. Hence it is very difficult to major in both math and accounting

  • If accounting math which by the way is only addition we do no other math was the only part of an accounting degree and the profession it would be a total waste of tuition. There is far more to it then math

  • Accounting may well be the two an person-friendly and a annoying significant, it purely relies upon on how properly you’re at math. you would be employing graphs, charts, determining taxes all of that exciting stuff 😀 yet on the grounds that your good at it you could desire to no longer have any issues

  • I wouldn’t call it easy. Yes the arithmetic part is easy, and computers do most of that anyway. The tricky part is knowing the laws and rules involved, and where to PUT the numbers. That can be quite complex.

  • It wouldn’t be to me, cuz I suck at math. But if you’re good with numbers, then I guess it would be. The real question is, is it your passion? If you don’t actually want to do it then it will be hard for you, whether you’re good at it or not.

  • It is so simple I am surprised more people don’t go for it.
