Think of it this way: if you’re going to throw a party, then you’re going to provide everything. I only hold parties when I can afford them. It seems very convenient for me ask people to supply “my”, fo “my” b-day party with stuff which I must provide.
I find potluck a good idea only for parties where everyone have equal benefit, such as a holiday lunch at workplace where every coworker bring a dish or drink and every one enjoy likewise.
But you may “offer” a potluck, as long as you states in the invitations: “It’s a potluck style party, so please, bring a dish instead a gift!”. So the guests don’t feel pressured to have to bring a dish and still have to buy a gift. Otherwise, the final balance is that guests will pay for a party which you’re supposedly throwing…no fair.
no, that’s so fun! I did that for My 21st Birthday. Its a blast seeing what Your friends can come up with and its just more fun to make and share food than just to buy it. I saved a ton of money by doing that as well. Just make sure You put that on the invitations so no one forgets. Id even section a list out so You know who’s bringing what, like drinks, appitizers, dessert ect.
You want to throw a party but you want others to supply the refreshments. Very tacky.
well yes make sure have good food
hambrugers
hotdogs
chicken
sandwiches
baked beans
No, but I don’t think many people are familiar enough with Hawaiian food to know what to bring (unless you’re in Hawaii).
