Is it better to drink beer or hard liquor with an ulcer?

I have a family member who had an ulcer from taking ibuprofen daily. This family member drinks 3-4 times a year and drinks 2 beers during those times. What is less harmful 1 shot of liquor or 1 beer? How about 1 shot compared to 2 beers? Don’t want to hear that they shouldn’t drink at all, it is true, but thats not the question I am asking. I don’t drink so I am not too knowledgeable on this subject.

  • It’s all harmful.

It’s the alcohol itself that will do the most to upset the ulcer, doesn’t matter what form it’s in.

The carbonation from the beer probably isn’t helping any, but it’s more diluted than the hard liquor.

Short answer – he shouldn’t be drinking at all.

  • heal the ulcer first, then

beer is less caustic to the intestines than hard liquor is
