Is it possible to be borderline autistic?

I’d rather not list my symptoms, but a friend of mine suggested the other day that I might be “borderline” autistic. Is this a real condition? I understand that autism is, but is it possible to be on the cusp, so to speak?

  • You’re either autistic, or you’re not. You can have high functioning autism (you have to have had a speech delay) or you can have Asperger’s syndrome (no speech delay), and both of those “conditions” often appear “mild” to people who don’t understand either. They aren’t actually mild, and they’re certainly not borderline.

“Borderline autism” is not a diagnosis any reputable psych professional would give you.

  • Yes autism is a spectrum varying from severe down to mild you may be just on the cusp of the autism spectrum
