Is it possible to pave your own concrete floor for a simple garage?

I dont have real high standard. As long as it is flat, and I can build a metal garage on it. It’s about yards by yards. I did the calculation, it would probably need lbs bags. Can it be done by two guys, manually mixing the concrete and pour into the wood frame? I mean prabably we can do it in sections. Is it possible?

  • For one thing, you’d need near twice the number of bags to pour a ” slab.

Plus with my calculation of around bag which includes wastage of % would cost @ bucks a bag $ and @ bucks a bag it would cost $ and so on. IMO would be much cheap getting ready mixed from a truck.

Plus and this one really matters, it takes about minutes to mix bag with a mixture, so x = / = . hours or , hour days, even if you were to mix two bags at the time it would take hours more or less.

  • It would be possible but very hard work. better if you had more people helping. You would have to do it in sections. The trick is to keep a fairly steady and quick supply of concrete going into the form. You don’t want to stop and then start again. You always want to keep a wet edge. Meaning you don’t want to place wet concrete up against concrete that is already starting to cure. That is hard to do on a big slab pour.

  • You might need footings and a foundation wall first. You pour the slab in the foundation, and build the wall on the foundation.

I would go for the ready mix truck. It will dump its load in less than / hour. You need a crew of maybe four people to move it about, and get it floated. Once it mostly sets, you can go to two people to give it a finish.

  • As Burt said, it is very possible, but good gosh almighty I don’t care how young you are, that is going to be tough. My only concern with doing it in sections is not having the concrete wire mesh to hold it all together, however if you do it in sections don’t forget to strike the edges to prevent cracking.
