Is it stupid that I think aliens exist?

Here’s my reasoning. I believe in them because in our galaxy alone, there are millions of planets that can support life as we know. And this is just life as we know it alone. There could be different necessities for life other than the way we know it. So that’s an even higher chance. and then this is only one galaxy, one of hundreds of billions in this universe. In my opinion, to think that Earth, a planet that is 300,000 less times as large than the Sun is the only planet with intelligent life seems unreasonable to me. And the Sun looks like a speck of dust compared to VY Canis Majoris. My point is, the universe is so big, I highly doubt we’re the only intelligent life forms.

  • Most people would agree with you, as to whether their visiting the earth is another question.
  • First, your contention “millions of planets that can support life as we know it” is questionable: we haven’t found any yet. At best, it’s a conjecture, but one that has a high probability that most of us agree with.

Next, “different necessities for life”; so far, we’ve only found one element that has the right chemical consistency to create molecules of such high complexity as that in life – carbon; nitrogen won’t do it, and neither will boron. Oxygen might be necessary for life as we know it, but it can’t be the central molecule the way carbon is. So, eliminate hydrogen, lithium, beryllium and fluorine and helium. And, of the nexxt set of elements, only one comes up as a possible candidate – silicon. Silicon acts similarly to carbon, but we’ve never found it in complex compounds in the same way as carbon. These 18 elements are the most common in the universe, from what we’ve been able to find, and the other 100 or so are not present in enough quantities to be viable, so, “life as we know it” is probably the only basis for living organisms.

Not that I think you are wrong in thinking that earth is the only planet with life — but it is a very rare combination that will produce it. There very likely are other life forms out there, and some will be as sapient as we are, and probably facing very similar problems, including managing not to destroy themselves with technology. The galaxy is big enough to duplicate the same kind of accident as earth did, and quite a few times. That’s not counting the other galaxies in our cluster, and in the other clusters.

So, yes, life is likely to be out there somewhere, but how are we going to find it?

  • Yes but, even if they did manage to be created, they must still survive the challanges of the drake equation.

They’ve got to be lucky enough not to be destroyed by either their own technology if theyre smart enough or not be destroyed by cosmic phenomenon such as asteroids, quasars, supernova’s, radiation, unstable orbits, collisions with other solar systems and stars, pulsars, earthquakes, volcano’s, solar storms. These are but a few!

However, if life did exist, its rational to think the laws of evolution would apply, so intelligence would be the best factor for life to have, leading to eventual dominance of intelligent lifeforms. Smart aliens should in essence exist if life on a planet survives long enough.

  • It is not stupid.
Although many have disagreed with the the theory of extra-terrestrial life in the past, this is not the case as of today. Science has [finally] come to an agreement that it is very likely that life thrives elsewhere. It’s very naive to think that we are the superior species in this universe; we were created by something (or someone) after all. It’s also likely that the God(s) who created us were extra-terrestrials, mistaken as God(s) for having superior technology that we (humans) perceived as “magical” or “divine.” Keep using that brain of yours. Continue to question everything. Keep looking for answers.

  • No matter what people try to use to try to prove you wrong, this is not stupid. First what you have stated is absolutely correct, only adding up the possibilities of life being found on other planets. Where micro-organisms have actually been found during previous space missions and some fossils have been found in meteorites, the possibility of complex organisms is still good. Now one thing that bugs me about how scientists pursue any potential extraterrestrial hot spots in the cosmos is that they are basing what it could be like from the conditions in which a majority of life can exist on, when there are some organisms that can prosper without any of it. That alone shows that there is a chance that evolutionary lines on other worlds may have taken a different route to better suit the conditions, so there could be even more then what we are expecting. So essentially the question shouldn’t be are they out there, but where are they? Or who knows, maybe they have already come to tell us. It essentially is left to a good mixture of logic and imagination in order to answer these questions. And if I remember correctly, didn’t NASA come out and say that Earth would make successful contact with extraterrestrials in about ten years?

  • No, it isn’t stupid at all!

Like you said, there are millions of planets, millions of galaxies, etc. How can there not be life out there?

Did you know that scientists have actually found proof that life once existed on mars? As far as they know, it doesn’t dwell on there anymore, but millions of years ago, it did. Isn’t that awesome?

Also, if you think about it, where did our ancestors imagine all those ideas about how Gods’ behaved, what they looked like, etc? I mean, they could have imagined some of them, but not all of them.

If you want to read something (although there are tonnes more, like crop circle theories, etc) do a web search for The Dogan People of West Africa. Now, that is one interesting story!

And, like I said, what about crop circles? Whoever says they are created by natural means are kidding themselves, and are incredibly naive. I mean, of course, some of them could be natural, but have you seen them these days?

Oh, and one last thing, what about the Pyramids fo Giza? They are in perfect alignment with Orion’s Belt. How could such a primitive (although, in some ways, they knew a lot more that we did) civilization like the Egyptians, create something so outlandish?

  • there is no doubt to most people alien life exists but the real question is … IS IT ON EARTH??? this is the big question for most people… I side on NO becasue like your own analogy there is many planets that would could suppost life many of them might be closer together than earth is to anything around it our closest solar system to us period is 79 lightyears…. 79 years at light speed and we know it has no life bareing plantes.. then next is 110… it gets wors eand worse for US we are in a desert area in space far away from everything on an outer arm….. why would aliens come all the way to earth??? ONE if life was vary rare and they knowticed us they would come but if it was very rare that is a sad sad thing for us humans…. OR if we were a stopping point an oasis in the desrt per say but that would require a goal to the travel IE they stop here for X reason to get to there end destination.. since we cant see any other life baring planets around us in any near direction that seem to be a moot reason…. SO im of a mind they are not on earth… or if they are its a sad sad sad universe with very little life… or they have mapped everything out there and nothing for us to explore.

  • Nope, completely normal; In fact there are more planets that you could possibly imagine, not just millions and the potentials of life to exist outside of planets (sentient clouds of vacuum proof photosynthesizing bacteria), are even greater; no it is not stupid to believe in Aliens.

  • It’s not stupid at all, there’s a good chance you’re right. Now if you’re into government conspiracies, reptilians and Riley Martin type craziness, that would be stupid.

  • Its almost a mathematical certainty that there is life out there some where on other planets, all you have to do is believe in the maths that says so.

  • Not at all! Because really, what do we know? Our human race is just a drop in the ocean. Who’s to deem what exists and doesn’t exist? Humans?

…I hate humans <_< (And yes, I’m one myself. But I swear, we’re so…closed-minded sometimes.)

  • It could be possible when all the living factors are available on thise planets…
Yet the scientists have not found any existence of aliens so from my opinion until the scientists find their existence proof, we should make any decision..

  • No,its not stupid at all, everybody belives in something, even though its true or not

    I belive in zombies!!(:

  • Yep the sun is big about the earth.and obviously that the true aliens not the earth. It’s our unconsumed mind.

  • nopeee i believe there is

  • I don’t think it’s stupid at all that you believe that aliens exist! We all have our hobbies and interest and this is yours☺☺
For all we know there probably are…!
