Is there a company/department that will, for free, come into your home to test for black mold (etc..)?

We recently inherited my husband’s grandfather’s home after he passed away. It had been locked up for a year and when we opened it up we found the roof had leaked in one of the bedroom’s. The leak went through the ceiling down to the hardwood floor. We are in the process of remodeling and before we move in I want to make sure there is no mold (black mold/mold) or other potential harmful bacteria (etc.) have grown in the floors/walls. We can’t see any now, what we did see we have cut out, repaired, and replaced. Is there a company like the Health Department that will come in for free to check/verify this? As always…thanks ahead!

  • Yes, if you are within city limits the health department, building department, or some such MAY be able to analyze – or you can search online for a commercial testing lab to send a sample to.

Just remember that mold spores are everywhere……..most is not harmful, even most black molds…….if you eliminate all sources of moisture it will go dormant and if there are traces seal in the walls, they won’t cause problems.

  • Check with your city building inspector, he should have some knowledge on the subject.

  • sorry but very few people work for free
