Is there more daylight on the west cost than on the east cost (USA) even at the same latitude?

I live in Toronto, Canada and am thinking of moving to a milder winter, say in California, Florida or North Carolina but another thing that I hate about winter (other than the cold), is that it is so dark.

  • The amount of the daylight in an area is defined by its latitude. This daylight can be seen in the sun path diagram, regions with the same latitude use the same sun path diagram. So wherever you are as long as it is the same latitude you’ll still receive the same daylight. But I don’t think those places that you mention are located in the same latitude with Toronto.

  • Here’s a hint, the Earth turns around so the same latitude gets the same amount of daylight regardless of east or west. However different areas have different weather so some areas have fewer cloudy days. Alberta is considered the sunniest province in Canada because of this.
