Is there really a difference between spark plug brands?

let me explain

my truck is coming up on needing spark plugs. So before i waste gas driving around to see who has plugs cheaper, i call before hand to each store. Now, my truck calls for AC delco, but i’ve ALWAYS put champions in them. i double, even triple checked the cross reference from ac-champion.

when calling i told them what engine it was and all that and i’d like to have them in champion. and 75% of them gave me the routine “you should really buy ac delco’s and nothing else”
i asked, yeah but do they match up, and the answer was yes, but you should only use ac delco

is there really any difference, if they are matched up correctly and have the same gap?

  • Yes, they are the same. I have a Chevy and it prefers Champion

  • Cheap spark plugs will break easier and if they break while screwed into your engine the tip comes off and scores the cylinder walls (putting wear and tear on your engine) and you also get a misfire. Not to mention that most cheap ones don’t make as good as a spark. So you could be loosing gas mileage as well.

  • you must drive a GM car so the best plug to use is what it calls for and in your case it,s AC plugs ! who knows better then the factory that made the engine ? champion plugs are meant for chrysler cars, AC plugs are for GM cars and motorcraft or autolite plugs are for ford !

  • the ones the manufacture calls for always work the best
