  • Hello.Jobseekers Allowance is paid fortnightly in arrears. When you make a claim to contribution paid JSA the benefit centre assesses wehther you have paid enough contributions in the last 2 tax years,i.e. if you have worked wholly for the last 2 tax years which are 28-29 and 29-2010 april to april.if you haven’t worked during that whole period you may be assessed for Income based JSA which is the same rate as Cont JSA but means tested. The declaration is a 2 week statement you sign for to state that you are actively looking for work.Check your signing booklet given to you.If you fail to attend then your claim will be closed one week after you were meant to sign. The most imprtant part of this for you is you appear to be claiming the wrong benefit.Anyone who has a child under I believe it to be 7 years old should be claiming Income Support,Please phone 080 55 66 88 and make that claim urgently. When on Income Support you do not need to go jobhunting.say to them you have a baby to look after,Hope this helps.

Source(s): DWP employee, just to add this won’t stop you from looking for work.I made that suggestion because I was thinking of the baby

  • This means you have applied for NI based JSA but that you do not have enough NI to actually get paid. They will however credit you with NI so you MUST still sign on in order to keep your case open AND get your NI credits.

The 2nd letter is simply a standard sent letter saying you did not attend the interview.

Call them if you don’t understand what’s happening. That’s what your *advisor* is for.

Source(s): EDIT: Jackie, they may not be able to claim Income based if they are living with a partner who works full time. Income based is, clearly based on household income. If a partner works, it normally means they make too much money for the unemployed partner to claim, which is why you would claim NI based. If they can’t claim NI and they can’t claim Income based, the partner has to support them. Been there done that lol Had to support a partner who was unemployed for a time.

  • There are two types of JSA, income based and contributory based. You have not paid enough NI contributions for contributory based but I don’t see any reason why you can’t claim income based. There is a law here that says you do not starve. Go back and ask them about income based JSA.

  • Get an appt with the centre and then disucss it all face to face.
