Learning about Computer Systems/Security?

Hey
I want to learn everything about anything to do with technology and love and appreciate it so much.
I really love the security aspect, although admittedly I haven’t been too far into the details, and want to be either a white hat or a systems designer when I’ve finished highschool/been to uni.
I really don’t know where to start learning because I heard the best way is to know everything about how a system works before you can exploit it (in a good way).
I’ve started looking at books but not sure on which would be best or how basic a beginner/intermediate’s book should delve into the system.
Hope somebody can point me in the right direction.

  • I’m in college right now looking at employment options and your going to need to know networking concepts and basics very well as well as be very comfortable with different operating systems, such as Linux/Unix. Knowing JavaScript or SQL will help too. Tcp/ip knowledge is a DEFINITE. I would read compTiA books. They are very well written also.
