Mavic or Azonic? Project bike?

I recently found a 25 Trek Bruiser One. (very hard to find). Regardless, it am looking to upgrade the wheels. Must be 6Bolt for disc hub. I was looking at a set from mavic xm119 to be exact that had Shimano M525 Deore hub and was kept together with DT Swiss spokes. Another option would be Azonic Outlaws. Being a roadie, I have not had a chance to test much on the mtn side of my sport and would like a second or third opinion on these wheels. Wondering what others think. How did they wear for you? Im not primarilly worried about cost, just need the reliability.

  • Since you have listed a hand built wheel on your choices, I will suggest another! I don’t think you can build a more reliable wheel than a Mavic 719 rim (719 for 29’er, 717 for 26″) laced to a Chris King hub with DT competition spokes. The ride is smooth and true. They will not be the lightest wheels on the market, but they will outlast and provide a superior ride quality to anything else you find.

If $ is no issue, you could look at the SRAM Rise 60 as well. They are very light, tubeless compatible and carbon rims lend durability and ride compliance.

Hope this helps. Oh, by the way. Of your top two choices, pick the Mavic rim with Shimano hub.
