Moving a Windows license from one PC to another?

So I have a desktop PC with Vista on it. There is a netbook I want to buy that comes with Windows on it. But I want to install Ubuntu on the netbook. I want to keep my desktop with a Windows OS on it, and the netbook with Ubuntu on it. Is there a way to move the Windows OS onto my desktop? (overwriting Vista)

I hope that makes sense. If not I can add additional details as people answer.

Thanks!

  • Not legally with the OEM license of Windows (the one that comes preinstalled on computers). Those licenses are restricted to the single computer- Microsoft knows that that license goes with that computer and you aren’t allowed to move it. On a normal license, that you go buy into the store, the license goes with you and you’re allowed to move it.

  • How do you think of you will get a clean pc with out Win already pre loaded on it? whether you have been fortunate adequate to cajole the producer to no longer installation the OS, it is going to make approximately $ huge difference in the fee, if that. d, except the Win on your laptop develop into offered as a retail replica, this is not going to place in on yet another pc. OEM variations are no longer transferable from one pc to a distinctive.

  • You should be able to get the down load for windows through microsoft may be spending money

  • you do realize the netbook edition of windows is a scaled down, limited version.
