My Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 2001 struggles to start now and then?

I have a 21 vauxhall corsa 1.2, I dont use my car day to day but I have lately had a few issues with it. When its been a day or more without use when I go and turn the key and try and start it up cold it struggles to start, i.e. the engine chuggers but doesn’t get proper turn over and it wont start up until i allow it to chug for a bout 5-6 secs or keep turning key a few times. I thought it was the battery, so I changed that and still had issues. Then I thought it might have been the spark plugs, so changed them for new ones as they did look slightly warn and had a bit of thick oily substance on them. I then thought may be a coil pack which is attached to the spark plug which I put WD-40 on. But still having the same issue. I’ve run out of ideas. Has anyone else had this issue?

Engine has only done 580 miles.

  • If it continues misfiring once it has started, have you tried replacing the coil pack? If you have only sprayed it with WD-40, it probably won’t make any difference. See if you can borrow one from somewhere, or get a known good one from a breakers, as they are not too cheap to buy new on a whim. Coil packs are a pretty popular seller for quite a few Vauxhall models and your car’s symptoms do suggest it as a good possibility.
    Good luck 🙂
  • With a problem like that it, it usually is something small rather than a major problem, with Cars I have had in the past with a similar problem, I checked and changed the fuel filter on one and it cured it, others has been the maf sensor needing replacing or cleaning and lastly faulty ht leads can be the problem, if simple checks don’t suffice get a diagnostic reader for an auction site for £20 can save you £0’s in the long run

  • If the car had only done that mileage and been properly maintained it would be in peak condition.
So either the miles are false or it has been abused, or both. Trade it in. Money spent on a 12 year old car in poor condition is money down the drain.

  • Scrap it.
