Operations Research jobs in Canada (work visa)?

Hey,

I’m currently completing a degree in Operations Research and will probably get a masters (or at least an honours). After my study is done, I want to spend a year or two up in Canada and was just wondering if there is high demand for people who specialize in O.R up there. Thanks!

  • Whatever jobs there are may not be for you, just yet.

Unfortunately, there are no work visas for Canada at all. That category was closed last year. Everyone has to come the same way. Your skills may help you to get a visa, but not to come sooner.

You must have a Permanent Residence visa first. It takes from four to seven years and costs CAD 475. Start here, fill in all documents, attach your police report, a cheque and sit back and wait.

All applications go into the same basket and will for the next several years. There are some 650,000 applicants ahead of you, yours will be the last one in.

If it is 100 % complete and accurate on submission, it will be registered and opened in 3 – 4 years. After that it takes 1 – 3 years to issue a visa, if you qualify.

You will be judged on age, your education and work history, family affairs – no unfinished divorce, general health, & al.

You need to start saving money now. As an immigrant you will have to prove that you have CAD 15,000 available to pay for yourself while you seek employment and find permanent housing. The Canadian government doesn’t pay anything to new immigrants.

You cannot get any job in Canada from afar – it is 100 % IMPOSSIBLE to get a job in Canada until after you have your visa in your hand. Don’t even think of it.

Anyone who says differently is a liar and a cheat and only wants your money. You get nothing.

    Start saving now.

I apologize for sounding so harsh – but facts are facts.

  • Not likely.

In order to apply for a work permit, you must have a job offer from a Canadian company which has permission to hire foreign workers. Such permission requires the company to apply for a labour market opinion (LMO) report showing a shortage of workers in Canada in that profession. They must also include proof that they advertised for the job in Canada and no qualified Canadians applied. There is no general shortage of researchers in Canada. Canada has one of the highest rates of post secondary education. Further, such jobs are also extremely easy to outsource to foreign firms and those which can’t be outsourced would typically require extremely specific skills and experience within Canada.
