Question about 3D graphics cards?

So I’m building my own computer and while looking at GPUs found that there are such ones as 3D cards. So now my question is….is this a good investment? From what I’ve read, you need a monitor that can handle 3D (having a fast refresh rate) and a 3D graphics card. Now I don’t want to have to use glasses so is this able to do that? And does it just plain make the screen 3D or just games that are IN 3D and such? I’ve read that these cards generate the graphics twice, thus making each eye see it differently and making a 3D effect. So if someone could inform me on a bit of this and how to put it together, that would be great! Oh and if anyone knows if these cards are SLI capable. Not just with each other, but if I have a normal graphics card, then connect it with a 3D one (yes, my motherboard is SLI compatable) would that work? Please and thank you 🙂

  • Okay, you will need nvidia’s 3D Glasses, they aren’t colored though, they have shutters which turn on and off 120 times a second for 3D.

Any nvidia gaming card can do 3D vision, but gaming with them would require a card on the line of a 680 or maybe even a titan.

  • there are a number of names, 3-D portraits card being one, there is GPU: portraits Processing Unit yet that’s in simple terms used to describe the chipset and not the cardboard itself. you have workstation screen Controller, VPU: workstation screen Unit, portraits Card, Video Card.
