Question about the saxophone?

As the title says, im a newbie to the sax. I was wondering, do i blow into the mouth piece for every note that i want to play. like one breath one note. or can i be blowing into the mouth piece with one long breathe with some way to make each note sounds how it spouse to. without being obvious that its one long breathe……sorry if this is confusing…I’m not sure how else to explain

Thanks to all that answer

  • You would get out of breath to play each note separately. Practice long tones where all you do is breath one note for an extended period of time…. Then tongue a note every 4 beats, then every 2 beats, then try quoter notes, then 8th notes and so on (if you can) when you practice this, you will understand that you can play a good portion of the song on one breath (only if you practice). I hope my advice has helped.
Don’t give up at the sax, it rocks after some practice.

  • You should get a saxophone teacher. I wouldn’t suggest learning such a complicated instrument by yourself. You won’t know how to adjust the mouthpiece to tune, how to get a good tone, etc.

  • It depends on the sound you want from your sax. Blowing one long breathe gives it a more legato sound, while short breathes will give your notes a more staccato sound. General, do one breath one note

  • You can tongue each note (one breath, one note) and slur the notes ( one breath, many notes).
